  • Buying A Firearm Online

    What You Need To Know

You’re not taking it home with you and it’s not being shipped to your door.

That’s right. Firearms have to be transferred face-to-face, by a FFL (Federal Firearms License) holder—a licensee. Your firearm will be sent to a licensee of your choosing for transfer to you. If you’ve never purchased a firearm before, this may sound strange, but legally, a firearm must be transferred directly from a licensee to the buyer after a form 4473 is properly filled out, signed and passing a background check (the background check is waived in most states if the buyer has a carry or gun permit).

The licensee you designate (we’ll get to that) and FMM (Full Metal Mayhem) will exchange credentials and once everything is verified, your firearm gets shipped (after full payment is received). Once the firearm arrives at your designated licensee, it is processed and you will be notified. The paperwork (form 4473) will be filled out and signed at that location and the background check performed if required. Then you take your firearm home (or better yet, to the range).

You have to let us know where to ship your firearm to. It will have to be a licensee (Federal Firearm License holder), with a valid, unexpired license, located in the state that you reside in. You will provide FMM the contact information or provide your selected licensee with this email address: ffl@fullmetalmayhem.com to start the process. There will be no shipment processed until the receiving licensee is notified and credentials are exchanged. Failure to provide the required information in a timely manner may result in your order being cancelled. Orders cancelled due to incomplete or inaccurate information are subject to a $10.00 cancellation fee.

    Important Information

Because each state has their own rules governing the sale and possession of firearms (California, New York, etc.), it is up to you to know and understand your rights and your ability to legally own a firearm in your state of residence. Additionally, the firearm will not be shipped to the purchaser, but rather to the selected FFL. The person listed on the invoice (purchaser) must be the one filling out the paperwork for transfer. Please see the information about “straw purchases”.

Remember, Full Metal Mayhem will not accept a return of a firearm once transferred. It is your responsibility to know if you can pass a background check (if you don’t have a carry permit or gun license), own certain capacity magazines and/or types of firearms. Full Metal Mayhem does not stock, nor sell firearms that are “state-compliant”. Our firearms are U.S. Constitution compliant, and if you live in a state that does not acknowledge your rights under our Constitution, you have our sympathies, but no sale.

Any firearm that is returned to Full Metal Mayhem by the receiving FFL  is subject to a 20% re-stocking fee. The original purchaser will also be responsible for any and all shipping and processing charges incurred.

    Be sure before purchasing.

    Straw Purchasing
Buying a gun for someone who is prohibited by law from possessing one or for someone who does not want his or her name associated with the transaction is a “straw purchase.”
A straw purchase is a federal crime.
An illegal firearm purchase can bring a felony conviction sentence of ten years in jail and a fine of up to $250,000.
Buying a gun for someone who can’t can cost you your good name and land you in big trouble.
Never buy a gun for someone who is unwilling or unable to do so. Friends don’t ask friends to break the law for them. If someone you know asks you to purchase a firearm for them, they’re no friend.
Whatever you do, Don’t Lie for the Other Guy!

    What is a straw purchase?
A straw purchase is an illegal firearm purchase where the actual buyer of the gun, being unable to pass the required federal background check or desiring to not have his or her name associated with the transaction, uses a proxy buyer who can pass the required background check to purchase the firearm for him/her. It is highly illegal and punishable by a $250,000 fine and 10 years in prison.

    The Message

Convicted felons, minors, persons determined by a court of law to be “mentally defective” and certain others are prohibited by law from buying a firearm.
If a friend or relative asks you to lie to the federal government or to a federally licensed firearms retailer to try to buy a gun for him/her, don’t do it! It’s not worth 10 years in jail.
Understanding the importance of cooperating with law enforcement, the firearms industry through the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) — the industry’s trade association — has for more than a decade partnered with the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Office of Justice Programs (OJP) to assist law enforcement in educating firearms retailers to be better able to identify and deter illegal straw purchases and to raise public awareness that straw purchasing is a serious crime.

Clicking “View Larger Map” in the upper left corner of the map below (you may have to click twice) should open the map full screen in another tab. The map should automatically show results based on your location. If necessary, adjust the search terms (i.e. FFL near <Zip code> or <your address>).

    FFL Lookup

Using Google Maps® (or other search sites), search for “FFL near me”. You should see a list of available FFLs in your area. Note the names and contact info for possible candidates and contact them about receiving a firearm for transfer. Be sure to ask what their fee is. Be aware that FFL transfer fees are not standardized and some FFL transfer charges are higher than others. It pays to shop around. Once located, provide us their business name, contact name, receiving address (a PO Box is not acceptable), email and phone number. Also, give them our FFL Transfer email, ffl@fullmetalmayhem.com and your Order Number. Be sure they include your Order Number in the Subject line whenever they contact us.

Please get this information to us in a timely matter. After 4 business days, any order without the required information from your designated FFL, will be cancelled and could be charged a $10.00 cancellation fee. It Please ask your selected FFL to respond quickly to any requests from us.

Once we’ve established contact with your receiving FFL we will ship your firearm. If you made a credit card payment online, the order will ship as soon as that charge is captured. If you elected to pay by Zelle transfer, you will receive an email requesting payment. As soon as payment is verified, the firearm will be shipped.
